Aqua Hygiene Products

Sustainable Wellbeing

Promoting the wiser and wider use of procedures for healthier and sustainable showering

Background
Aqua Hygiene Products (AHP) manufactures state-of-the-art shower heads and conducts world-leading R&D for advancing Legionella control procedures that help reduce the well-documented risks to health associated with conventional showering methods; attributed to a widespread source of infections that are avoidable. Including Legionnaires’ disease, widely-believed to be often misdiagnosed as pneumonia, and Pontiac fever, a flu-like illness, often believed to include cases of freshers-flu.

Late 1980’s, AHP founded the SafePurge Legionella control procedures - providing an alternative and more dependable means of controlling Legionella from showers; procedures later advocated by National Health & Safety Authorities, National Health Authorities, European work group (EWGLI) and leading scientists around the world. Safepurge showers features in the UK’s Health & Safety Executive’s videos, filmed at Holiday Inn Hotels and the Royal Liverpool University Teaching Hospitals. Further independent scientific trials, carried out at Catterick -2009, challenging different Legionella control methods, once again confirming the dependability of our principles and procedures; leading to national military roll out programs for Safepurge showers. However, employing advanced SafePurge technology considerably raises the price-point of showering installations, shown to restrain a wider-appeal for this healthier showering method.

Broadening accessibility
Broadening accessibility for healthier & sustainable showering is reliant upon first inventing and developing an improved engineering approach, which is reliable, practical and cost-effective. Setting out to achieve this, AHP revisited the common Legionella control challenges inherited from the design concept of traditional shower heads, which has evolved little since Legionella was discovered. AHP has now accomplished a fundamental design breakthrough - inventing and developing a unique shower head, capturing a spray plate having orbital positioning; evolving the design concept of traditional shower heads for healthier & sustainable showering. Introducing SafeFlush - Technical shower heads, available for upgrading conventional showering facilities and installed at a price-point similar to fitting typical traditional shower heads.

SafeFlush - Technical shower heads
Establishing the Best Practice Benchmark for healthier & sustainable showering, across a wide range of business sectors. Also, establishing Best Practice Initiatives for the Hospitality and Pro-sports sectors. Providing a positive and cost-effective outlook for our clients seeking commercial advantage, whilst protecting their brands and demonstrating technical due-diligence to staff and stakeholders alike.

Health & Safety Law - Manufacturers' responsibilities
AHP provides updates for duty holders about improving Legionella control procedures for helping to combat the reasonably foreseeable risks to health associated with traditional showering methods, including those widely-overlooked. Describing a combination of, critical design parameters when manufacturing shower heads, additional Legionella control procedures and enhancing conventional Legionella control procedures - for when showers are in regular-use, little-use and temporarily out-of-use.

Technical support
For decades, AHP continues supporting regional, national and global organisations - for projects ranging in size, from single shower installations, to those requiring many thousands of showers, e.g. Ministerial Departments, UK Gov. We welcome the opportunity of supporting your healthier and sustainable showering requirements.

Our History

2005: Preventing Legionellosis (USA publication); Safepurge references. Author, Doctor William F. McCoy.

2006: Department of Health (HTM04-01: part B), describes the Safepurge Legionella control procedure as an effective control means and how it should not be confused with other shower types.

EWGLI (European Guidelines), Health & Safety Authorities, National Health Authorities and leading scientists around the world have published the Safepurge Legionella control procedure.

2009: Scientific trials carried out at Catterick Garrison, England; 56 Safepurge showers successfully trialled against other shower types; leading to a Safepurge military roll out program. Aqua Hygiene Products, principles, technology & procedures confirmed suitable for the largest property estates.

2014: DoH, Health Technical Memorandum 04–01: 7.44. HSE, HSG274 Part 2; 2.167, 2.168; describes the Safepurge control procedure as an effective control means.

Many thousands of Safepurge showers sold worldwide - supporting projects ranging in size from just one installation to those requiring several thousands, e.g. UK Gov ministerial departments.

2020: R&D, Time Showers - Technical Shower Head program successfully completed; closing the Legionella control loop for the traditional shower head type, by incorporating principle-based and interconnected innovations for sustainable Legionella control.

2024: Time Showers product launch - continuing the traditional shower head theme expected by hotel guests and encouraging the wiser and wider-use of Legionella control procedures, through the promotion of cleaner-fresher showers - for healthier and sustainable showering.
